Primitive Theatre Class Demonstrations
August 31, 2026
Workshop

The Primitive Theatre class demonstrations were presented by the students of the 11th Batch of the National School of Drama (NSD), Bengaluru Centre, on 31st August 2026, at the NSD Bengaluru premises, under the guidance of Smt. Savitha Abyrappa.

The demonstrations provided students with valuable practical exposure to the fundamental principles, origins and expressive traditions of primitive theatre, offering insights into the early forms of theatrical expression rooted in rituals, movement, rhythm, gestures and collective performance practices.

Through experiential learning and creative exploration, the sessions enabled students to develop a deeper understanding of the evolution of theatre and its connection to ancient cultural and performance traditions. The demonstrations also encouraged students to explore the integration of traditional expressive techniques into contemporary theatrical practices, fostering creativity, physical expression, ensemble coordination and a broader appreciation of theatre's historical and cultural foundations.
